How Mikra works

Mikra teaches you to read a real text — the Book of Jonah — not isolated grammar. A few things that may surprise you are by design:

What is the daily verse ritual?

Each day unlocks one new verse. You listen first with the text hidden, then read it aloud while tapping any word you don't know, then reveal the English to check yourself. Ear first, eyes second, meaning last — that order is the method.

Why only one new verse a day?

Spacing is what makes it stick. A verse a day with reviews beats ten verses in one sitting — the gate is deliberate, and the 48 verses of Jonah will arrive sooner than you think.

What do the little dots under words mean?

An orange dot marks a word with a micro-note — tap it to read a short hint about the grammar or form. A blue dot means you've tapped that word before and it's already in your flashcard drills.

What is the second wave?

Twelve verses behind your newest verse, each verse comes back a second time: you read it aloud cold, with no help, and mark whether you owned it. First pass to meet the verse, second pass to prove it.

How do the flashcards schedule reviews?

Letters, vowel points, and the words you tap are drilled with SM-2 spaced repetition — the intervals stretch as you get things right, so due cards stay few and reviews stay short.

Where does the audio come from?

All Hebrew audio is generated on your device by iOS's built-in Hebrew voice, in modern Israeli pronunciation. If the app is silent, iOS may need to download the Hebrew voice once: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Hebrew.

Privacy Policy

Mikra is built to keep your data yours. In plain terms:

We don't collect anything. There are no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs in the app.
No account, no tracking. Mikra never asks you to sign up and does not track you across apps or websites.
No network access. The app works fully offline — the text, notes, and audio all live on your iPhone.
Your progress stays on your device. Your flashcard history, verse progress, and streak are stored locally and never sent anywhere.

Because no personal data is collected or shared, there is nothing to request, export, or delete from us — removing the app removes everything.
